    Description

Carl Laemmle Anniversary Month (Universal, 1921). One Sheet (27" X 41") Flat Folded. Miscellaneous.
Carl Laemmle, the head of Universal studios, periodically issued one sheets to promote the stars under contract at his studio. In 1923 he released this poster featuring Hoot Gibson, Reginald Denny, serial queen Laura LaPlante, and the "Man of a Thousand Faces," Lon Chaney. Universal was just about to release one of their greatest films, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, starring Chaney. On the poster are 18 inset stone litho portraits of top stars, three of whom would star in the studios' great silent horror classic three years later, Phantom of the Opera, Chaney, Mary Philbin and Norman Kerry. The piece has only two tiny chips in the right border, light smudges on the left side of the title, and a small tear at the top edge. It is flat folded, with no vertical creases. Very Fine+.
