    Description

Advertising Poster (National Railway Company of Belgium, 1910). Railway Station Poster (23" X 38")

. This is one of the rarest posters we've come across. It is a railway station poster for the National Railway Company of Belgium. It advertises the yearly Carnaval in Binche, Belgium, near Charleroi near the middle of Belgium. This is one of the oldest carnaval's in Europe. It lasts for 3 days and is held just before lent. The poster dates from 1910 and signed in the plate by the artist, LB. Due to the paper drives in both World Wars to supply paper when little was being manufactured, posters of this vintage are extremely difficult to come by. The graphics and color are simply terrific. There is older restoration to address a trim of 1 1/2" around the white border, a chip in the lower left field, edge wear with tiny tears, pinholes, and some surface scratches in the lower border. The top printing reads 'Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Belges', the name of the rail line. There is a faint NMBS (National Railway Company of Belgium) stamp in the upper right corner. Very Fine- on Linen.
