Description
It Happened One Night (Columbia, 1934). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B.This is only the third time an example of this excessively rare one sheet for director Frank Capra's beloved screwball comedy has made its way to the block at Heritage. Stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert enchant and beguile as the world-wise reporter and the runaway heiress whose reluctant partnership transforms into romance over the course of a wild road trip. The first film to sweep the Academy Awards in all five major categories (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Writing, and Best Picture), It Happened One Night was a cultural phenomenon. Sales of undershirts tanked after it was revealed that Gable didn't wear one in the "Walls of Jericho" scene, and his quick talking, carrot-chomping irreverence inspired the creation of Bugs Bunny. Of all the posters created for the film, this is perhaps the definitive portrayal of the lead couple Excellent restoration has addressed several tears in the credits and title areas, as well as a couple of tears in the image of Colbert. There was fold wear, and the borders have been airbrushed. After these judicious interventions, the poster displays beautifully with exceptionally vibrant color.
