    Description

Werewolf of London (Universal, 1935). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style C.
An item literally like none other, Heritage Auctions has the greatest pleasure in presenting the only known copy of this much-coveted one sheet from a horror classic. Especially stunning are the crisp and vibrant colors found in this piece, lending an extra eye-catching effect to the excellent portraits of Henry Hull, Warner Oland, and Valerie Hobson. Director Stuart Walker's story about legendary lycanthropes is among one of the most influential of Universal's horror hits as the first major Hollywood production to feature a werewolf, paving the way for an entire subgenre still popular today. Of course, none of this would have been possible if not for the immense skill of makeup artist Jack Pierce. He would go on to work his magic on Lon Chaney Jr. when the actor took his turn as The Wolf Man with Pierce's original, more inhuman design that had been nixed by Hull and the studio. Genre collectors should not allow this gorgeous poster to pass them by, especially as it has benefitted from such professional corrections as touchup to fold wear and a minor chip in the "He" of Henry Hull's credit. Also restored was a small chip in the lower right corner, another small chip out of the upper left corner, and one more in the upper center border that just touched the black background. The linen been nearly trimmed to the border, but this does not affect the poster in any way whatsoever. This one of a kind item is sure to be a prime display piece desirable to any die-hard horror fan and a cornerstone in almost any collection.
