    Description

    Werewolf of London (Universal, 1935). Pressbook (24 Pages, 13" X 26").
Paper from this Universal fright flick creates quite a loud buzz amongst collectors, and this extremely rare pressbook will be no exception. This is the very first time Heritage has presented this incredible piece of cinematic history. This classic horror film centers on Henry Hull, the man who becomes a werewolf. The original makeup for the werewolf was deemed too gruesome to use, but later showed up in Lon Chaney Jr.'s rendition of the Wolf Man. Hull plays a scientist who journeys to Tibet in search of a rare flower. There he is bitten by a werewolf (Warner Oland) and takes on the lycanthropic curse. When he returns to London, his transformation occurs and he goes on a killing spree until he's finally brought down by Scotland Yard. Valerie Hobson plays his wife, fresh from being the bride of Dr. Frankenstein! The color-rich, linen-finish front cover of the pressbook features similar artwork to the insert format, and the back cover showcases seven large format options, several of which are almost impossible to find, including the colossally impressive 24-sheet. The interior first page boasts an actual 9 1/2" X 14" rotogravure herald, and other pages offer an array of exciting promotional materials: a 24-sheet poster cut-out, special snipes, a marquee valance and burgees, ad mats of various design and size, lobby streamers, lobby cards, midget and jumbo cards, and half sheet and insert formats. For a collectible this age and format, the pressbook is in highly impressive condition. The front cover has clear tape along the spine, as does the interior page spine which has separated from the cover. The covers and interior pages show edge wear and wrinkling, slight surface abrasions, and a middle horizontal fold. An opportunity to own this rare gem won't come around again anytime soon! Fine/Very Fine.
