Description
The Invisible Man (Universal, 1933). Fine/Very Fine. Window Card (14" X 22").Director James Whale, fresh from the immense success of Frankenstein, was tapped to bring H.G. Wells' science fiction thriller to the screen using new technologies to make Claude Rains invisible. Rains, as the scientist Jack Griffin, slowly descends into madness from his prolonged use and experimentation of a drug that will make him invisible. The artwork on this extremely rare window card features everything you could want from the film with Rains wearing the classic bandages and sunglasses. The card is extremely scarce in this unaltered state and this may be one of the few surviving copies unrestored. There are no signs of restoration, other than some paper tape on the verso, as well as the remnants of some hinge tape used to hold it in a frame at one time. The card shows staple marks in the borders that slightly enter the background area of the image. There is minor wear to the edges and all four corners, with slightly more wear to the upper right corner, with a tear and crease in the upper left corner in the "R" of Rialto. Considered one of the "Big Four" of the early horror and science fiction films from Universal, this rare window card is a serious item to add to any collection of the genre.
