    Description

    The Ghoul (Gaumont, 1933). Very Fine. Photos (6) (8" X 10"), Keybook Photos (4) (4" X 5"), all Mounted (8" X 11").
Fresh off of his success as the undead Egyptian Mummy, Im-Ho-Tep, in The Mummy, Boris Karloff traveled back to his native England to appear in a similar horror tale. In The Ghoul, he portrays a fanatical Egyptologist who takes possession of an ancient jewel, whose powers are said to unite the owner upon death with the Gods of ancient Egypt. When the jewel is stolen from his tomb, Karloff rises from the dead to take ownership back. The Ghoul did not get a wide release in the USA and prints of the film were considered lost until the 1980s when a single copy was found in a vault in Prague. This lot contains original stills from the Gaumont release. Anything original on this film is almost impossible to find and highly sought after by collectors. Some of the keybook stills are continuity shots of the sets and a candid behind the scenes image of Karloff with the crew. The photos are slightly curled with very light handling wear. All are studio stamped on back, and four also have studio snipes attached.
