    The Ghoul (Gaumont, 1933). One Sheet (27" X 41").
For years there's been debate within the hobby as to whether this poster is the original 1933 release of the Boris Karloff film or a later reissue. After much study and consideration, we believe it is indeed from the first release, as Gaumont, the distributor, signed on with Fox Studios in 1935 to distribute domestically and all of those posters are marked with Fox in the lower border (see Hitchcock's A Woman Alone and Transatlantic Tunnel one sheets in our previous catalogs). We believe that if this were a reissue one sheet of the film from the later 1930s there would have been mention in the border of the Fox connection. Prove us wrong if you can, as the pressbook from the film's original release has never been found that we are aware of. Condition issues included slight paper loss within the folds, tears in the image, small chips in the borders (including one post-restoration), and a hole in the title area, all of which has been addressed with professional conservation. This would be an amazing addition to any horror collection and is a ghoulish image if there ever was one. Fine on Linen.
