    Description

The Body Snatcher (RKO, 1945). One Sheet (27" X 41"). This Robert Louis Stevenson tale was inspired by the true story of the gruesome graverobbers Burke and Hare. Legendary horror producer Val Lewton brought in director Robert Wise ("The Day the Earth Stood Still") to adapt Stevenson's story for the screen. He then cast the two greatest horror stars of the cinema, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, to add a chilling atmosphere to the production. The one sheet for the film is one of the best and scarcest from the classic horror era. This one sheet was somewhat tan when it was put on linen. There has been some color touch-up along the fold lines that doesn't match very well and there was some color touch to two tears in Karloff's face. There was a bit of chipping in the "na" of the word Snatcher and a bit more in the bottom border. Finally, there is some light "silverfish" nibbling in the upper border. All of these defects could easily be remedied by a competent restoration artist. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
