Son of Frankenstein (E.N.I.C., 1940). Very Fine on Linen. Italian 4 - Fogli (55.25" X 77.5") Francesco Giammari Artwork.
The only known copy in the world and once housed in a private Swiss collection, this impressive large-format poster is making its debut presentation at Heritage. A dream piece for any horror collector, Frankenstein's Monster seems to loom from the shadows and right off of the paper, an effect no doubt inspired by artist Franceso Giammari's expertise in bold woodcut prints. The movie was the third and final film for Boris Karloff to play his signature role as the Monster, and is considered to be the last of the truly great Frankenstein movies at Universal. A talented cast with the likes of Basil Rathbone and Lionel Atwill made the production a success, but it was Bela Lugosi in the role of Ygor that truly turned the film into an outstanding horror entry. Wonderfully printed in stone lithography, this poster already displayed well prior to restoration, further benefitting from professional corrections to fold wear, pinholes, a few very minor chips, and some small tears. There was a tear from the left border that extended slightly into the Monster's wrist that has also been addressed. Light partial airbrushing has been applied to the borders and folds, making this incredible poster ready for display.
