    Description

London After Midnight (MGM, 1927). Fine+ on Linen. Argentinean One Sheet (29" X 43") A. Wagener Artwork.
Considered to be one the "holy grails" of lost cinema, the last known copy of this classic silent horror film starring the great Lon Chaney was destroyed in a fire in an MGM studio vault in 1965. Just over ten years ago it was reconstructed using more than 200 still photographs and a continuity script (coinciding with the film's 75th anniversary) and released to DVD. Starring the "Man of a Thousand Faces," and directed by Tod Browning, who is most known for directing Dracula and Freaks, the film is based on a script by Browning and depicts Chaney as a vampire (though in makeup only). Posters for this famous horror film have been as elusive as the film itself over the last eighty years, but Heritage has had the distinction of bringing to auction an Argentinean one sheet only twice before and the U.S. one sheet in 2014 for a world's record price. This magnificent poster has had professional conservation to address touchup to the folds, edge wear with small tears, pinholes in the borders, and a couple of small border chips. There were mild tears at the folds and a chip in the center crossfold.
