    Description

    King Kong (RKO, 1933). French Double Grande (61.5" X 92") Style A.
Posters from King Kong, one of cinema's greatest triumphs, never disappoint, and this French Double Grande is worth waiting a lifetime just to see, let alone possess. No amount of hyperbole can ever fully describe King Kong's impact, and its revolutionary effect on how films have been made ever since. After premiering in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall in March 1932, it began doing all-time record box office business. Kong was then released internationally to another tremendous reception, resulting in fabulous posters being produced for its promotion, including this mesmerizing large format French piece. Artist P.H. deBuncey renders the mammoth "Eighth Wonder of the World" bellowing his displeasure as he sends a tree trunk asunder, with a few unlucky humans dangling precariously in his wake. The colors are as bright and fresh as the day it was printed, and airbrushing and touchup have corrected signs of wear: small tears within the image, upper left corner into the artwork, upper right border into "Kong", and right border, a chip in the lower left corner, and a small chip in the center. The rarity of this poster cannot be overemphasized, as there are two French Double Grande styles, neither of which Heritage has previously sold. A phenomenal find, and one that won't come around again anytime soon! Fine- on Linen.
