Frankenstein (Universal, 1932). First Release Spanish One Sheet (28" X 39.5").
Of the original international posters designed for Frankenstein, Universal Studio's blockbuster horror drama, this may be the most dramatic, with the hulking visage of the Doctor's Monster projecting eerily out from bottomless blackness. It's a simple, yet haunting image that was selling Mary Shelley Wollstonecraft's story to Spanish audiences and not unlike the Teaser style poster released in the U.S. Yet, unlike the original U.S. 1931 release posters for the film, the Spanish one sheet, issued early the following year, gives Boris Karloff top billing. His popularity and stature as a horror film actor rose considerably upon the American release, securing Karloff's future as an icon of the genre. This poster is incredibly rare, the first that Heritage has seen or presented. It's in remarkable condition, showing only a small chip in the left border, a tiny chip between the "k" and "e" in "Frankenstein," and touchup to the folds. Very Fine- on Linen.
