    Description

    Frankenstein (Universal, 1931). Window Card (14" X 21.5").
Universal's Frankenstein is considered one of the greatest films of all time. This 80-year-old gothic horror film was produced for a sum of $291,000 at the height of the depression, made a star of a forty-four-year-old Boris Karloff, and made Universal Studios some twelve million dollars richer. The film became an almost instant classic of a new genre, the horror movie, and is viewed today as one of the true classics of world cinema. Posters for this film have always been infamously difficult to find. Only a small handful of one sheets including one teaser, one six sheet, one three sheet, one insert, and a restored half sheet are all that have appeared of the posters, not including lobby cards. Presented in this lot is the highly elusive window card created for the debut of the film. There is some light staining on the left side, tape on the verso at the top left corner to reinforce a small tear, a tear in the top border, and a corner bump at the top right. A miniature version of the Style C three sheet that Heritage presented for the first time in the March 2015 Signature Auction, this card is a monumental find! It is believed that this copy is one of just a small few window cards existing and this is the first we've offered! Very Fine-.
