    Description

    Spellbound (Columbia, R-1954). Italian 2 - Fogli (39" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.
Gregory Peck stars as the newly appointed director of a mental asylum who proves to be incompetent, raising the suspicion of one of the doctors on staff (Ingrid Bergman). Although Bergman suspects Peck could be a highly disturbed amnesiac who murdered the real director, things are complicated by her romantic feelings toward him. Surrealist Salvador Dali lends his talents to the remarkable dream sequences in the film, adding just the right touch to a movie that is set in a mental institution. Certainly a thematic illustration, Italian artist Anselmo Ballester hones in on the plot's whirlwind of twists and turns with his stunning portraits of Peck and Bergman. Excellent conservation to this wonderful piece has repaired fold wear, pinholes, chipping at the folds, and bits of paper loss in the interior. There were some tears into the interior and at the folds, a few of which extend into Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck's images. The borders were once trimmed and have since been restored. Fine on Linen.
