    Description

    Pandora's Box (Franco-Film, 1929). Pre-War Belgian (24" X 33.5").
Heritage is proud to offer, for the first time, this very rare pre-war Belgian poster from G.W. Pabst's masterwork of German expressionism, Pandora's Box. In this late-silent classic, Louise Brooks' genuine naturalism brilliantly brings to life the naive character of Lulu, a young woman whose sexual gusto effects all she comes in contact with in the most devastating of manners. When Lulu slips into a downward spiral of depravity, she finds herself in the arms of the man who brings about her demise, notorious murderer Jack the Ripper. Though not well received upon release, Pabst's dark and stylized film is now considered a masterpiece that stands with expressionist greats such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Golem, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, and F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu. The poster is brittle and shows edge wear with small chips, fold wear, crossfold separations, toning, a tape stain in the right border, some border foxing, and archival and museum tape on verso. There is a 7.5" theater snipe attached to the top of the poster, extending the length from 33.5" to 41". Despite these issues, this scarce Belgian poster displays quite well, and would make an excellent addition to any silent collection. Folded, Fine.
