Gate of Hell (Daiei, 1954). Folded, Very Fine. English Export Japanese B1 (28.5" X 41.75").
The very first Japanese film to gain artistic and critical recognition abroad - it won the 1954 Palme d'or Grand Prize award at the Cannes Film Festival, a 1955 Honorary Academy Award for "Best Foreign Language Film," and the 1954 New York Film Critics Circle Award for "Best Foreign Language Film." Originally titled, Jigokumon. When courageous samurai Moritoh (Kazuo Hasegawa) is promised anything his heart desires as a reward for bravely defending his lord, he asks for the hand of Lady Kesa (Machiko Kyo) in marriage. Unfortunately, she is already married to Wataru (Isao Yamagata), another samurai, putting the lord in a difficult position. The poster displays only slight fold wear, a few staple holes, faint image ghosting, as well as a couple of minute surface scuffs with indentations.
