    Description

Children of Paradise (Pathe Cinema, 1945). French Grandes (3) (43" X 63") Jacques Fourastié & Eliane Bonabel Artwork.
Children of Paradise is considered by many to be one of the greatest, if not the best, French film ever made. Directed by Marcel Carné and written by Jacques Prévert during the German occupation of France, Les Enfants du Paradis has a 195 minute running time. Carné fought to have the film shown in its entirety without an intermission, instead of being cut into two parts. The title refers to the second balcony of the French theater, which was called "paradise," and its "children," the common people who watch a play and respond to it honestly. The film takes place in the theater world of Paris during the July Monarchy (1830-1848). Offered here are these very scarce, single sided posters, an uncommon sight during wartime France's massive paper shortage. Designed by Jacques Fourastié and drawn by illustrator Eliane Bonabel, these exquisite character portraits highlight cast members Maria Casarés, Louis Salou, and Pierre Renoir. They generally show mild edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, creases and misfolds, and pinholes in the borders. Some of the posters have toning in the borders and folds, but are in overall good shape for their age. Folded, Very Fine-.
