    Description

This Gun for Hire (Paramount, 1942). One Sheet (27" X 41").
A classic film noir from novel to screenplay, This Gun for Hire hits all of the high points essential for a shady crime thriller, featuring everything from hardboiled leads to a twisting, multi-layered plot. Previously a complete unknown to Hollywood with eight years worth of bit parts and extra credits to his name, Alan Ladd finally caught his big break as author Graham Greene's conflicted assassin, Phillip Raven. Despite Robert Preston's top billing, Ladd stole the attention of audiences throughout the film with his gritty performance and undeniable chemistry with the alluring Veronica Lake. In fact, he proved to be so popular that he would later replace Preston's top billing, in the 1945 reissue of the title, as the true star of the show. Exceptional conservation to this fan favorite noir poster has corrected fold wear, pinholes in the borders, and tears at the mid folds. There was once chipping in the border and vertical fold, including in the title and Veronica Lake's temple. All of these issues have been repaired with great skill and the poster now looks fantastic. Fine+ on Linen.
