    Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Bros., 1941). Fine+ on Linen. First Post-War Release French Grande (45" X 62.75"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
A striking image of Humphrey Bogart as private detective Sam Spade dominates this wonderful and scarce French poster, which was at one point displayed at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Grand Lobby Gallery. Released in formerly Axis-controlled countries soon after the end of World War II, this was the first time French audiences could enjoy John Huston's film noir adaptation of the popular Dashiell Hammett detective novel. Posters for this film are some of the most sought after in the entire hobby, especially posters of such great graphics and scarcity as the one offered in this lot. Benefitting from professional restoration, this poster no longer shows fold wear and separation, tears, pinholes, in addition to small chips in the borders and folds, as well as some in the title. The borders and title have been airbrushed. The poster now displays beautifully.
