    Description

The Blue Dahlia (Paramount, 1946). One Sheet (27" X 41").
The third picture to feature the dynamic film noir team of Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake, this murder mystery centers around the shady happenings at the nightclub the Blue Dahlia. Ladd stars as Johnny Morrison, a returning veteran who discovers his wife (Doris Dowling) has been unfaithful and wants a divorce. She turns up dead shortly thereafter, and Johnny is suspect number one. It will take all his ingenuity, help from buddies William Bendix and Hugh Beaumont, and the estranged wife of the Dahlia's owner (Lake) to clear his name. Famous pulp writer Raymond Chandler wrote the original screenplay under time pressure--Ladd had been called up for military duty and production had to be stepped up considerably. During the filming, Chandler had run-ins with director George Marshall over improvised dialogue and almost walked off the picture. He also had to change the ending because the Naval War Office didn't want a shell-shocked vet (Bendix) to be the real murderer. Shortly after the movie was released, a young woman named Elizabeth Short was murdered in Los Angeles, a case the press dubbed "The Black Dahlia" in a gruesome twist on this title. There were tape stains on the bottom border and up through the D in Dahlia. There has been touchup to the folds. This is the more rare dark blue title version of the one sheet. Very Fine- on Linen.
