    Description

    Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
Billy Wilder took a close look at celebrity and the abusive Hollywood "machine" in this dark classic. This film noir gem concerns a writer (William Holden) who plays the confidant and companion to an aging silent film actress (Gloria Swanson) in order to further his career. The film also cast other major stars from the silent era including Erich von Stroheim, Buster Keaton and the director Cecil B. DeMille. And although the film is considered a noir masterpiece, it is also part horror film as we see Norma Desmond's (Swanson) descent into madness. Swanson was nominated for an Oscar as were Holden and von Stroheim. Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay. This poster had some very minor chips in the edges of the poster and very tiny tears. There was some slight color touchup to the center points and to some very tiny tears along the fold lines and a few pinholes in the corners. There was also some damage to the lower right corner where there was some wear extending into the Paramount logo. All of this has been addressed with professional restoration and the poster now displays beautifully. This is still considered to be one of the best posters of the era and is always in demand. The linen backing has been trimmed almost to the edge of the poster as is often done in framing. Fine+ on Linen.
