In a Lonely Place (Columbia C.E.I.A.D., 1951). Fine on Linen. Italian 2 - Fogli (39.5" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.Without a doubt, foreign paper from director Nicholas Ray's unusual and cultish film noir far surpasses any domestic offerings. This Italian example is no exception. Master film poster artist Anselmo Ballester (On the Waterfront, Spellbound, Lady from Shanghai, etc.) produced some of the most striking and moody images for American films, especially those of Humphrey Bogart. Here, Ballester captures Bogart as Dixon Steele, a writer who may or may not be a murderer. In his arms is perennial femme fatale Gloria Grahame, as Bogart's girlfriend who fears for her life. A rare piece of post-war paper, this excellent poster has had restoration applied to edge and fold wear, fold separations, pinholes, and tears into the interior. Also addressed were chips in the borders and folds, including some reattached paper loss. There are some faint stains and smudges still visible, as well as a couple of the pinholes.
