DescriptionFantasia (RKO, 1940). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
Continuing to push the boundaries of animation after his success with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt Disney took another big gamble with his third feature-length production. His idea was to essentially expand his eight minute Silly Symphony shorts into a whopping two hour and five minute movie with no continuous plot and almost no dialogue. It was ambitious, to say the least, so much so that RKO nearly refused to distribute the picture. Animation fans should jump at the chance to own this exceptionally scarce one sheet that highlights characters from three of the film's most popular segments. Of course, Disney mascot Mickey Mouse appears in his famous getup from the Paul Dukas composition The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which was originally supposed to be a standalone Silly Symphony cartoon but instead inspired the whole feature-length production. Also represented is an ostrich from Amilcare Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours and a troop of mushrooms from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite. The one sheet is backed on paper that has been trimmed to the top and bottom edges of the poster, however this does not intrude into the paper itself. Touchup includes corrections to fold wear and separations, pinholes, small tears at the edges, and a minor crossfold chip. There are some faint stains in the background, but these are very light and do not affect the poster's fantastic image.
Estimate: $5,000 - $10,000.
