    Titanic (Tobis, 1943). Swedish One Sheet (27.5" X 39.5").
A piece of propaganda commissioned by Joseph Goebbels himself, this highly fictionalized retelling of the Titanic puts the blame squarely on capitalist greed, rather than arrogance. The British board members try to short sell their stocks, crew members act with reckless negligence for the possibility of profit, and the well-to-do passengers are nothing but heartless snobs, willing to abandon their children in the face of danger. Of course, it is the ship's fictional German 1st Officer Peterson that acts the lone voice of reason and kindness among the chaos. A wildly expensive affair for the cash-strapped Germany, the production of this film was also fraught with difficulty and scandal, including the arrest and hanging of director Herbert Selpin partway through the shoot. A fine piece never before offered at Heritage, this striking stone litho poster has slight edge wear, mild creasing, and small border tears. A few of the tears have a bit of archival tape on the verso. Rolled, Very Fine.
