    Description

    The Unknown (MGM, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41").
When genius director Tod Browning and Lon Chaney got together they created a masterful, disturbing, horror classic that takes audiences for a shocking ride. Chaney stars as an imposter "armless" knife thrower in a circus act who falls in love with the owner's daughter Nanon. Tragedy soon follows when the strongman (Norman Kerry) turns this into a love triangle. Chaney is mesmerizing as the tormented lover, with his co-star a little known actress whose performance garnered her much attention -- Joan Crawford. This gorgeous one sheet is only the second copy that we are aware of to appear in auction and the colors are as vibrant as the day it was printed. A beautiful unused copy which has been folded vertically one extra time, thus two extra folds and has some toning within the folds. There is a clean tear in the upper left from the border and through the "n" of "Lon" which has been repaired on the verso with archival tissue tape as have several of the small fold separations. Folded, Very Fine-.
