    Description

    The Two Orphans (Fox, R-1918). One Sheet (27.5" X 41") Style B.
Theda Bara was one of the most popular actresses of the silent era, and considered one of cinema's earliest sex symbols. Bara made more than forty films between 1914 and 1926, but most were lost in the 1937 Fox vault fire. She was known for "vamp" roles and revealing costumes, which were later banned in Hollywood by the Production Code. In 1915, Bara starred as an abandoned young girl in The Two Orphans, a film she hoped might lead to more roles outside of her femme fatale persona. It was not meant to be, though, as it seems typecasting had taken hold of the actress' career. In order to promote the exoticism that was a popular trait for actresses during Bara's time, studios billed her as the Egyptian-born daughter of a French actress and an Italian sculptor. They went so far as to encourage Bara to discuss mysticism and the occult in interviews. This 1918 reissue style B stone litho poster features Bara with co-star Joan Sothern. In great condition, the poster shows small crossfold separations, thin dust shadows at the edges, and has edge wear and slight creasing in the bottom border. Folded, Very Fine.
