    Description

The Bitter Tea of General Yen (Columbia, 1933). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
It was one of the last pre-Code films that Barbara Stanwyck would make before the Hays commission came to tame Hollywood. In this picture from director Frank Capra, Stanwyck's character falls for a Chinese warlord during a rebellion against the British Empire. The subject matter (of inter-racial relations) was a bit much for a lot of the American public at the time. Paper on this title has always been very scarce, in part due to the fact that many theaters refused to play the picture. Nevertheless, this remains one of Stanwyck's most important and best roles, and the posters are quite collectible. This gorgeous Columbia lobby card is only one of a few we have offered from the title and being a portrait is assuredly one of the best from the set. There are pinholes in the corners with a few light creases, and there is a shallow surface indentation at the top right. Very Fine+.
