    Description

Shanghai Express (Paramount, 1932). French Moyenne (23.75" X 31.5") Roger Soubie Artwork.
Expert poster artist Roger Soubie lends his talents to this beautiful French moyenne and its incredible portrait of Marlene Dietrich, the first that Heritage has ever had the opportunity to sell. What's more, Dietrich herself owned this very poster as part of her personal collection, making it all the more desirable for fans of classic cinema. The great director Josef von Sternberg and sultry Marlene Dietrich made history in their several films together and this is one of their best collaborations. Dietrich is unforgettable as Shanghai Lily, a notorious drifter with a past, who attempts to win back her old love, Captain Harvey, played by Clive Brook. Anna May Wong gives an outstanding performance in this film, considered by many to be one of her best roles. This lovely piece looks remarkable after touchup to the folds, pinholes in the imprint area, and a spot in the lower border. There is also some touchup to the highlight in Dietrich's forehead. The linen has been trimmed to the border, and there are a couple of post-restoration pinholes at the top. Very Fine- on Linen.
