Nicholas Nickleby (Eagle Lion, 1947). British Six Sheet (79" X 79").
Cedric Hardwicke and Derek Bond star in this adaptation of the timeless Charles Dickens novel. After the Second World War, England found a renewed love for one of its most famous authors. The first film adaptation produced was Great Expectations, helmed by the great David Lean. After the release of this film, Oliver Twist followed the next year, also under Lean's direction. In post-war Britain, paper was in tremendous shortage and this may be the only copy of this six sheet known, as large format posters from this period are very scarce! Prior to restoration, this stone litho country-of-origin poster had small chips and tears in the right borders. A bit of faint ghosting can still be detected in the upper right of the background but this remains a very strong poster with excellent imagery. Very Fine on Linen.
