    Description

Monsieur Beaucaire (Paramount, 1924). Very Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Making its Heritage debut is this splendid stone litho one sheet, the only known copy of its kind! Valentino was among the greatest stars of the 1920s, having become famous as the original Latin Lover in such hit movies as The Sheik, Blood and Sand, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Valentino took on numerous historical and costume dramas throughout his career, often with his wife Natacha Rambova controlling production values, and such was the case of this adaptation of Booth Tarkington's 1900 short novel and 1904 stage play of the same name. Set in the court of France's King Louis XV, this lavish affair aimed for accuracy with opulent costumes, elaborate sets, and even speaking much of the dialogue in French despite it being a silent film. Simply beautiful and the only known extant copy, this one sheet has been professionally restored to correct only the most minor fold wear. The borders have been airbrushed to finish out its restoration, making this gem ready for display.
