    Description

Le Rouge Baiser (Paris, Circa 1950). French Advertising Poster (17.25' X 22.25"). Advertising.
The "Paul Baudecroux" listed in the bottom of the poster is the French chemist who invented "Rouge Baiser" (Red Kiss) lipstick in 1927. It was the first "indelible" or "kiss-proof" lipstick, and was so successful in "dying" the lips, it was pulled from the market due to its being so hard to remove! From 1950 on, Audrey Hepburn would wear nothing else. In 1949, artist Rene Gruau created this truly iconic ad of "Femme au Bandeau", the blindfolded girl with the red lips. With just a few simple lines and a dash of color, it became one of the most successful ad campaigns in history. A restored poster with bright color and a clean overall appearance. It may have general signs of use, such as slight edge wear, or minor surface crinkles. A poster graded Very Fine+ may still be on Linen, but this is the highest grade allowed for a poster in this state. Grades on all restored items are pre-restoration grades. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Very Fine on Linen.
