    Description

Hoopla (Fox, 1933). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (28.5" X 41").
To the world of film buffs and historians, Clara Bow was the silent screen's "It" girl. Her screen persona exuded confidence and sexuality, a new awakening for the American public still mired in the restrictive Victorian age. In this film Bow plays Lou, a hootchy-kootchy dancer who is catapulted into stardom by a fast-talking barker. Hoping to escape her tawdry existence, Lou makes a play for a handsome young man, but she bows to the inevitable and returns to the sort of work she knows best at the film's end. This picture proved to be Bow's swan song, as she retired to private life after its completion. This stone litho one sheet, featuring a luminous visage of Bow, has received restoration to address edge and fold wear, pinholes, creases, and a reattached chip in the bottom right corner. Also addressed are some surface scuffing and scratches in the background, title, and Bow's image, although this is still visible after restoration. The borders have been airbrushed. Very Fine- on Linen.
