Going My Way (Paramount, 1944). French Grande (47" X 63").
Though as a devout Catholic he had reservations about taking the part, Bing Crosby's performance as Father O'Malley in Going My Way earned him a Best Actor Academy Award and catapulted him to the top of Hollywood's list of box office favorites. The warm-hearted film was wildly successful both with moviegoers and Academy Award voters, as it garnered Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director Leo McCarey, Best Supporting Actor Barry Fitzgerald, Best Original Story, Best Screenplay and Best Song. This is a wonderful large French poster done by poster artist Boris Grisson of Crosby and Fitzgerald in their roles. The U.S. posters have often been referred to as "pedestrian" and this wonderful rendering does put those posters to shame. There was some fold wear and separation which was supported by tape on the verso before being backed. The tape staining is still present in the lower credit area of the poster, as well as some crimping to the image due to the poster being mounted on the less rigid European muslin. Get this one while you can as we have never seen another copy of this poster! Fine+ on Linen.
