    Description

    Don Quixote by Vincent Korda (1958). Near Mint-. Signed Original Mixed Media Preliminary Artworks on Paper (3) (34" X 17", 33.25" X 18", & 34" X 17.5").
Miguel de Cervantes' novel of a delusional old man that fancies himself as a knight is one of the top literary classics ever written, something that would normally be a prime candidate for thrilling and emotional movie adaptations. Too bad many believe the story to be jinxed. Orson Welles, Walt Disney, Dale Wasserman, and Terry Gillam all met with multiple troubles plaguing their productions, oftentimes resulting in the failure of their projects. Such was the tragic case with Mike Todd's attempt to adapt Don Quixote when the curse struck once more, resulting in the director's untimely death in a plane crash to New York. Although the main purpose of his visit was to accept an award from the Friar's Club, the director reportedly was scheduled to attend a meeting concerning the movie. Created as preliminary paintings for Todd's ill-fated project, these gorgeous pieces by Vincent Korda encapsulated the atmosphere and feeling Todd hoped to capture in the film. These unique mixed media pieces are making their debut presentation at Heritage, and they show only light edge wear with uneven edges, a couple of nicks, and surface rippling most likely from the artistic process. Each painting is signed by the artist. Near Mint-.
