    Description

Citizen Kane (RKO, 1941). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
Despite being what many critics call the best movie of all time, Heritage has offered only a scant few style A one sheets for the picture over the years. This may be due to the circumstances of the film's release, when newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst (the inspiration for the character of Kane) did everything he could to squash the release and advertisement of the movie. Known for his vindictive streak and a pathological lack of scruples, he threatened the studio, executives, and theater owners with libel should they show the film. RKO struggled to find any theaters willing to screen the picture, and audiences were sparse even at some of the premiers. Regardless, contemporary reviews from other publications raved about the picture, and it was nominated for a grand total of nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Showcasing a powerful and defiant image of Welles in his signature role, the poster is perfect for display after professional restoration. It once showed slight edge wear, fold wear and separation, a couple of tears, and small chips in the borders and folds. There was also a chip in the top right corner that did not approach the printing. The upper border has been airbrushed, lending a clean finish to the restoration.
