    Description

Chain Lightning by Alfredo Capitani (Warner Brothers, 1949). Very Fine-. Signed Original Italian Artwork on Paper (19" X 26.25") for the Italian 4-Fogli Poster .
Italian posters are among the most collectible in the hobby, due in no small part to their awe-inspiring artwork. Often far superior in design and artistic execution compared to posters from other national campaigns, the pieces hung unceremoniously on the walls of Italian cinemas could be considered illustrative masterworks. Among the skilled artisans crafting these incredible images was Alfredo Capitani, a painter of exceptional talent and creativity. He was one of Italy's premier poster artists for decades, eventually forming a movie poster advertising company with fellow artists Luigi Martinati and Anselmo Ballester, called BCM for their combined initials. Original advertising artwork is difficult to find at best, as each piece is unique, and it is far more difficult to find final illustrations used on the posters themselves. Painted in gouache, Capitani's depiction of Humphrey Bogart in this celestial illustration is no doubt the best image created for the film, and is a must-have item for Bogart fans and art enthusiasts. Bearing a hand-painted artist's signature in the upper left corner and a brilliant array of colors, this beautiful Heritage first shows very little wear. Visible signs of handling consist of very mild edge wear, corner creases, and a few small tears at the right side. There are a couple of small pieces of archival tape on the verso, but the painting is in otherwise exceptional condition. Very Fine-.
