    Description

    Beauty and the Beast (DisCina, 1946). French (47" X 62"). Like Orpheus, Jean Cocteau has descended into the land of the dead only to be resurrected here on Earth. With gorgeous remasters of his films being released into theaters and onto DVD, new audiences have discovered the inventive visuals that characterized his work. A retrospective at Paris' contemporary art museum revived the artistic community's interest in his writing and film work, and Philip Glass has also composed new scores for "Orphee" as well as this classic adaptation of the "Beauty and the Beast" story. This French grande poster maintains Cocteau's elegant art design, and just as Cocteau's sumptuous films are best viewed on the big screen, the restoration the poster has undergone allows its large scale to be fully displayed. It has been linen backed, with the linen borders trimmed to the poster's edges. The fold lines in this rolled poster have been retouched, although the black elsewhere in the image shows some cracking along existing crease lines. Fine on Linen.
