    Description

    Beau Brummel (Warner Brothers, 1924). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
John Barrymore stars in the title role as the 18th-century British fashion plate. Due to his magnificent clothing, style and quick wit, Brummel is a favorite of the Prince of Wales and of course, with the ladies. Irene Rich and Carmel Myers play a couple of the women in his life. Yet his heart belongs to the beautiful, unobtainable Lady Margery Avanley (played by 17-year-old Mary Astor, who during filming would carry on a most passionate affair with her leading man). The arrogant Brummel falls from grace after insulting the Prince and refuses to apologize. The final scenes of Brummel in an asylum, dressed in rags, but with still enough pride to turn away his true love rather than allow her to throw her life away on him are classic Barrymore. His performance was highly praised upon the film's release and remains one of the best film performances of his career. This gorgeous stone litho portrait poster, only the second copy Heritage has offered, has some chips and wear in the bottom horizontal fold as well as in the vertical fold, in the title and within the star's name. There are also a few small chips within the middle horizontal fold and tears in the lower portion of the poster. Professional conservation has brought the poster back to a magnificent beauty. Fine on Linen.
