    Description

    A Streetcar Named Desire (Warner Brothers, 1951). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Director Elia Kazan deftly transformed Tennessee Williams' sensational Broadway hit play into a true screen classic. The film became the biggest picture of the year and was nominated for twelve Academy Awards, winning four -- Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Karl Malden and Kim Hunter), Best Actress (Vivien Leigh), and Best Art Direction. Leigh gives the performance of a lifetime as the shattered Blanch DuBois, whose grip on reality grows more tenuous throughout the film, while Marlon Brando would launch to stardom due to his powerful role as Stanley Kowalski. The two stars share a poignant moment on this highly collected one sheet, which has been restored to address fold wear, pinholes into the interior, and small tears in the borders. There was a horizontal tear at the top of the background, and there are bits of paper loss and surface paper loss towards the bottom, including in the title and Brando's credit. The borders and much of the white background have been airbrushed, and the linen has been trimmed to the border, but not into the poster itself. Fine+ on Linen.
