    Leni Riefenstahl (1920s ). German Portrait Photo (9.25" X 11.5").
Vintage gelatin silver, double weight, glossy photo. This soft, lovely image was taken of Leni Riefenstahl very early in her long, illustrious, and often controversial career. Riefenstahl actually began as an interpretive dancer, performing throughout Europe with Max Reinhardt, who discovered her. Eventually Riefenstahl moved from dancing into acting, and ultimately to film producing and directing. She is perhaps most famous for her documentary films Triumph of the Will (1935) and Olympia Part I: Festival of the Nations (1938), both of which were direct propaganda vehicles for Adolph Hitler's Third Reich. Condemned by the international community for these works, she refrained from film making for a span of almost fifty years. During that hiatus, Riefenstahl would write three books about her time living with the natives of Sudan, and become adept at deep sea diving and photography. She died at 101 years of age in 2003, the year she released her documentary Underwater Impressions. An incredible piece of historical value, this photo is in almost pristine condition, showing only light edge wear. Very Fine.
