    Description

    Manhattan Melodrama (MGM, 1934). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
The first of fourteen pairings between Myrna Loy and William Powell, this pre-code crime drama boosted the duo's popularity and helped cement Clark Gable's rising star status. Screenwriter Arthur Caesar's tale of best friends taking diverging paths far exceeding the studio's expectations, becoming a breakaway success among audiences and earning Caesar the Academy Award. Also stoking the picture's popularity, Manhattan Melodrama holds the infamous distinction of being the last movie notorious gangster John Dillinger would ever see, right before federal agents gunned him down outside the theater. Sold for the first time by Heritage, this half sheet features a great image of all three leads, and shows some fading to colors, vertical creasing, staining in the upper border, a dust shadow in the left border, and a smudge in the background and right image. Rolled, Fine.
