    Description

Dillinger: Public Enemy No.1 (Midland Film Co., 1934). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41.5").
After public outcry that the government's shooting a man in the back while leaving a movie theater was cowardly, J. Edgar Hoover commissioned this propagandic newsreel to make the FBI's killing of John Dillinger more heroic. This rare poster was part of a four-wall campaign by the makers, to be distributed independently around the country. It is more than likely that the film received a limited release, thus the scarcity of these posters! This vibrant stone litho one sheet features a terrific image of the Depression-era bank robber and has touchup to the folds, pinholes in the borders, and a small chip in the upper border. There was a tear at the bottom into the background, and the poster has a small unaddressed sliver of paper loss in the right border. The bottom border was slightly trimmed, but the original copyright information remains intact and the missing paper has been restored. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
