    Description

Bordertown (Warner Bros., 1935). Very Fine on Paper. One Sheet (27.5" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Bette Davis is at her most sultry on this eye-catching one sheet, a first-time offering from Heritage that was once displayed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as part of the Mike Kaplan Collection. It can also be found within the pages of the book Reel Art, Great Posters from the Golden Age of the Silver Screen (Abbeville Press, 1988) by Stephen Rebello and Richard Allen. Davis and costar Paul Muni deliver excellent performances in this picture, a thrilling tale of obsession, insanity, and murder. In defiance of the studio's insistence on histrionics, Davis captured a more accurate and sinister portrayal of madness than any other Hollywood film at the time, greatly inspired by the mental afflictions of her own sister. A moody piece taut with suspense, this scarce poster would fit very nicely into any classic crime, drama, or film noir collection. Best of all, this particular one sheet is in great condition with a bit of touchup to a few pinholes in the printing. Other slight wear still visible includes a few creases, pinholes, minor stains, as well as very faint toning. The paper backing has been trimmed to the edges of the poster, but not into the actual poster, leaving the one sheet intact and a choice piece for discerning collectors.
