Description
The Philadelphia Story (MGM, 1940). One Sheet (26.75" X 40") Style C.After starring in a string of box office flops in the late 1930s, Katharine Hepburn's career seemed to be teetering on the brink of ruin. Never short on moxie, Hepburn's response was to return to the Broadway stage in The Philadelphia Story, to play a role that had been written especially for her. The production was an enormous success, and with the help of Howard Hughes, Hepburn shrewdly acquired the film rights and sold them to MGM. The resulting movie was one of that studio's biggest successes of 1940, instantly revitalizing Hepburn's career. The savvy Ms. Hepburn shines on this color rich one sheet, embracing co-stars Cary Grant and James Stewart. It had pinholes in the corners, fold wear with slight chipping, small chips in the left, top, bottom border and within the upper horizontal fold and in the upper vertical fold which extends into Hepburn's face. There is paper loss within her face and the lower credits. The bottom border seems to have been trimmed by an inch. Through professional restoration these flaws are not noticeable and the posters displays well. The linen has been trimmed to the edge of the poster. A true delight for fans of these three fine actors! Very Good- on Linen.
