Description

The Lady Eve (Paramount, 1941). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Romance meets screwball in this Preston Sturges comedy, telling the tale of a cunning con artist and the poor, but rich, dope she intends to fleece. Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda, both recently nominated for Academy Awards in leading roles, prove to be just as skilled at the comedic as they are the dramatic. Laughs abound between the two, embracing the rapid-fire stream of jokes and gags with an effusive enthusiasm that spills straight from the screen into the audience. Based off of the short story Two Bad Hats, Sturges' adaptation struck just the right balance between quick-witted satire and perfectly timed slapstick, resulting in an Oscar nomination in Best Writing: Original Story for author Monckton Hoffe. Collectors of classic comedy won't want to miss out on this popular poster, which has been conserved with touchup to the folds, pinholes in the interior, and small border tears. There were once chips in the borders and crossfolds, including a small chip in Barbara Stanwyck's face, and the poster had some paper loss in the right border and yellow background. The borders have been partially airbrushed, with the exception of the bottom border. These correction have made this brilliant poster a piece ready for display in any setting. Fine+ on Linen.
