    Description

So Long Mr. Chumps (Columbia, 1941). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Made at the height of their careers, the Three Stooges and director Jules White produced yet another two-reel manic adventure, the 53rd film in their 25 years in the business. Bearing a somewhat deceptive title, this zany comedy doesn't parody the award winning 1939 drama Goodbye Mr. Chips, but instead features the hapless heroes as street cleaners on the hunt for an honest man. Of course, their search for virtue lands the trio in prison, where they reference a Laurel and Hardy bit from A Chump at Oxford when they paint over their prison uniforms to make their escape. This short is especially notable as the only time the Stooges broke character on film, when Larry and Moe begin to laugh at Curly's ad-libbed final line right before the camera fades out. Touchup has been applied to the folds, crossfold chips, and pinholes in the borders. There was a tear in the right side of Moe's coat. Fine+ on Linen.
