Description
Play Safe! (Pathé, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.Comedian and dancer Mario Bianchi (Monty) Banks left his native Italy in 1914 to forge an entertainment career in America. After a stint in stage musicals, Banks starred in a slew of comedy shorts and feature films during the 1920s. Play Safe! was one of his most successful, a film that featured an exhilarating runaway train sequence. The actor relocated to England in 1928 and married musical comedy star Gracie Fields, whom he directed in a handful of motion pictures. A Heritage first, this stone litho one sheet features Banks and co-star Virginia Lee Corbin, an heiress he tries to rescue from a dastardly estate trustee. Nicely restored, the poster previously showed a chip in the top left with a tear, a chip in the top right corner, bottom border, bottom right, and in the bottom crossfold. Touchup has been applied to the folds, a tear in the bottom border that extends slightly into the background, and pinholes in the borders. The Style B one sheet is also presented in the November 2014 Signature Auction. Fine+ on Linen.
