    Description

His Picture in the Papers (S.A. Lynch Enterprises, 1916). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Prior to becoming the public's favorite silent swashbuckling hero, Douglas Fairbanks rose to stardom in a series of romantic comedies directed by the influential John Emerson and written by the hilarious Anita Loos, authoress of the famed comic novel Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. These comedies often made good use of Fairbanks' natural athleticism, this one in particular showcasing his physical endurance with car crashes, boxing matches, and beat downs against cops and train robbing thugs alike. Triangle, the studio behind the film, had a deal with S.A. Lynch Enterprises that shared distribution rights for certain productions, where both companies would release advertisements concurrently, making this an original poster. Offered for the first time by Heritage, this excellent stone litho one sheet looks great on display after skilled restoration has addressed a tear from the upper border into the top of Fairbanks' head, small holes in the folds, and paper loss in the upper and lower crossfolds. There is paper loss along the upper, left and right borders with several small holes in the upper background. There are mirrored jagged areas of loss into the "Doug" of "Douglas," and "anks" of "Fairbanks" on the left and right borders. Extra horizontal folds and diagonal creases in the upper horizontal fold are still slightly visible. Despite these issues, this poster displays very well and has retained its brilliant color. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
