    Description

    Goin' to Town (Paramount, 1935). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style A.
Never before sold by Heritage and rarely seen at market, we are thrilled to present this amazing style A one sheet showing Mae West at her classiest. One of a kind from the very start of her career, West astounded audiences and sold out theatres with her flagrantly ribald plays on Broadway, a true pro at milking any scandal for all it was worth as the true embodiment of P.T. Barnum's adage, "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Mae West carried her gutsy edge over to Hollywood, flouting social convention at every turn and doing her very best to titillate movie-goers and ignite the vitriol of prudish censors. Her delightful romps into the risque came to a sudden end in 1934 with the stifling enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code. Goin' to Town was West's first movie produced start to finish after the crackdown, and the first of her many attempts to buck the powers that be and let her suggestive humor shine through the heavy censorship. Already a great find with amazing artwork, this poster is in superb condition with only light touchup applied to the folds, pinholes in the corners, two very minor tears in the lower background, faint extra vertical creases, and airbrusing in the borders. This is a fantastic opportunity for early cinema aficionados and comedy connoisseurs, don't let this rare chance pass you by! Very Fine+ on Linen.
